The network connects all devices and gives access to the internet. Whether it’s a video station, music station, pc or network printer, the network allows them to “talk” to each-other.
The router is the “traffic agent” and manages the data traffic between the devices and the internet.
There are 3 physical ways to build a network:
Over a UTP data cable.
Allows the most reliable and fastest connection.
Wireless.
Offers the most flexible solution and by carefully placing the access point(s) you have access to the network all around the house and garden.
Over the power outlet.
If a constant, higher data-speed is required, like for video-streaming, and there is not UTP-cable available, we use a “powerplug”. Or if there is too much interference for a reliable wireless network.
In real life we use a combination of the 3 technologies, depending on the local situation.
Especially in an existing home the installation of a home network requires expert skills to build a reliable infrastructure with minimal wiring.
